Welcome to Samphire
Port Isaac
Port Isaac is a Cornish fishing village dating back to the 14th century. With white washed cottages and narrow winding streets including one called Squeezy Belly Alley, Port Isaac is located within an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Loved by holiday makers and film and TV companies alike, Port Isaac has featured in many films and TV programmes over the years, most notably the Doc Martin TV series. In fact, Samphire featured in one of the early episodes. It’s also home to the famous sea shanty singers, Fisherman’s Friends.
The cottage
Set in a slightly elevated position halfway up the village, Samphire is a mid-terrace stone cottage, about a 5-minute walk from the fishing village and sheltered harbour of Port Isaac. Samphire sleeps a maximum of 6 people and offers guests three bedrooms, one kingsize and two twin bedded. The well-equipped, fully fitted kitchen/dining room has a traditional slate flag stone floor. A wide archway leads to the sitting room at the front with comfortable seating facing the wood-burning stove set in the hearth. There is parking for one car at the rear of the property. Charging available for an electric vehicle.
The cottage is fronted by a small garden with views across the harbour and the headland. From the kitchen, a stable door opens to a small yard and an outside shower room and w.c. ideal for surfers and families returning from the beach. A fairly steep flight of steps leads to a secure and secluded hillside garden providing views of the sea and the headland. Amazing viewing point at sunset!
The Village
Village amenities include a bustling harbour, numerous pubs, cafes and award-winning restaurants offering outstanding food. There’s a variety of quality food shops too including two fish shops selling fresh, often locally caught fish and seafood all year round. A short walk downhill, the beach at Port Gaverne is ideal for young children for paddling and rock pooling. Further afield there are family friendly beaches at Polzeath, Daymer Bay and Rock which are a 20 minute drive away. Those up for rugged walks will find challenging trails and stunning views on the nearby coastal path. Here are a few suggestions:
